Flag Day

Today is Flag Day!!  Working with Veterans these past few years, I have had numerous opportunities to photograph The Flag. My portfolio of flag shot is still growing..  This happens to be one of my favorite photos..

I took this at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial down on Water Street in New York City..  Something about it, just pierces my heart. My Vietnam Veterans are very special to me. They should be special to you too…  But I won’t turn this post into a sermon, it is after-all a post about Flag Day..

In the United States, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened that day by resolution of the Second Continental Congress in 1777. The June 14 date is also when Congress adopted “the American continental army” after reaching a consensus position in The Committee of the Whole. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day; in August 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress.

Flag Day is not an official federal holiday.

My alternate post was going to be of Puerto Rico.. The President is supposedly making history there today by visiting.. O_o…  Ah well, I had to prioritise!!
