Day 46/365 – Rose Petals
Did you know, the day after Valentines Day was Single Awareness Day…
Made me think about how lucky I was to have a Valentines. It also made me think of all the men and women, husbands and wives who were alone on Valentines Day because their Valentine were deployed or had passed away.
Found this poem online and thought I’d share with you guys…
There is no glory in War,
Say goodbye to this wretch, to this whore.
Stolen love from a son or a daughter,
Needless suffering and aimless slaughter.
Peace, a marriage for the bride and the groom,
Brings wonderful flowers to blossom and bloom.
But some soldiers or sailors will never be wed.
The stranger, the grave hath claimed them instead.
Some like to wear war pins in their hats,
and join clubs to have their war chats.
But I took all my ribbons and medals,
and buried them neath the rose petals.
In the spring when the roses come callen,
I remember the warriors! the lovers! the petals!
that hath fallen.
To this wretch, this whore.
There is no glory in war
I was asked to photograph and event next week at the Union League Club for the Briefing of the 2012 Veterans Day Parade.. I am ever so humble to be in the midst of these men and women who serve to protect me. Should be a fun evening. I’m sure to post photos for you guys.
Have a great day
